DEEP LEARNING + MAXIMO RECIO
Evergreen
Deep Learning aka Richard Pike presents ‘Evergreen’ his first AV live collaboration with digital artist Maximo Recio. Based on his album ‘Evergreen’ the themes involve humans’ impulse to categorise and understand nature, its relation to the digital realm via collection of data, and how between the organic and the digitised we can find something new, personal and even cosmic.
Musically it evolves from sparse ambience, CD glitch textures, which transform into polyrhythms, layered with interlocking, dove-tailed precise syncopation. Reminiscent of the American classical minimalists, it is enhanced by the use of plucked, hyper-real harps and softsynths, and vocals disembodied to become ‘vocussion’, creating an idiosyncratic landscape.
Responding in real time to these multi-layered polyrhythms, the visuals articulate a journey of nature formation as seen through the eyes of a machine, creating a constant dialogue between analytical perspectives and ungraspable Nature.
